A Seat At the Table: The Testimony of Fannie Lou Hamer by Regina Taylor, focuses on the life of organizer and voting rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, from her beginnings in rural Mississippi to her historic testimony before the 1964 Democratic National Convention.

The play is penned by nationally celebrated, multiple award-winning playwright and actress Regina Taylor, and will be presented as a staged reading.

Roles to be cast:

A Seat At the Table is a staged reading which will be performed with an ensemble of 14 actors.

  • 4 Black Women
  • 2 Black Men
  • 3 White Women
  • 4 White Men
  • 1 Narrator, any race/ethnicity

All cast members will perform multiple roles, with the exception of Fannie Lou Hamer and Lyndon Johnson.

Audition Dates: Saturday, August 3rd, 10am-1pm

Audition Location: Biloxi Little Theatre

Rehearsals:

  • Saturday, August 17; 12pm-6pm
  • Sunday, August 18th, 2pm-7pm
  • Monday, August 19th–Wednesday, August 21st,  6pm-10pm

Performance: Thursday, August 22nd @ 6 pm

Audition Requirements:

  • Please be prepared to sing 90 seconds of a song (Freedom, Protest, or Gospel) 
  • All songs are to be sung acappella.
  • Please be prepared to read from the script.
